Laura Wahl übernahm, wie viele deutsche Politiker*innen, eine politische Patenschaft für den iranischen Aktivisten Reza Koshki Nejad. Er ist Luftwaffenoffizier in der Armee und wurde wegen seiner Unterstützung der Proteste am 15. Dezember 2022 vom islamischen Regime festgenommen. Seit Beginn der Proteste hatte Nejad diese in den sozialen Medien öffentlich unterstützt, was zu seiner Anklage vor dem Militärgericht führte. Er befand sich mehrere Monate in Untersuchungshaft und wurde von seinem Job suspendiert.
Vor Kurzem wurde Nejad temporär aus dem Gefängnis entlassen und reaktivierte seine Social Media Accounts. Seitdem steht Laura Wahl über Social Media direkt mit ihm in Kontakt. Auf diesem Weg teilte er mit, dass ihm ab 7. Mai der Prozess vor einem iranischen Militärgericht droht. Er sieht sich mit haltlosen Anklagen konfrontiert, die schwerwiegende Konsequenzen haben könnten. Seit letztem Jahr sind Aktivist*innen auch von der Todesstrafe bedroht, wenn ihre Proteste gegen die strengen islamischen Gesetze als „Kriegsführung gegen Gott“ verurteilt werden.
„Reza ist einer der vielen mutigen Männer und Frauen im Iran, die sich mit ihrem Einsatz für Menschenrechte und Freiheit einem hohen Risiko aussetzen. Es darf nicht sein, dass ein Staat in Scheinprozessen eine willkürliche Rechtsordnung durchsetzt, um die eigenen Bürger*innen zum Schweigen zu bringen“, kritisiert Wahl. „In wenigen Tagen steht Nejad vor einem solchen Gericht. Ich fordere den iranischen Botschafter auf, zu dieser klaren Menschenrechtsverletzung des Regimes öffentlich Stellung zu beziehen und sich für die verhafteten Aktivist*innen einzusetzen. Menschenrechte sind universale Rechte! Der geplante Prozess gegen Reza ist eine Farce!“
Eine postalische Anfrage sowie eine Nachfrage per E-Mail zum Stand von Reza Koshki Nejads Gerichtsverfahren an den iranischen Botschafter blieben bis heute unbeantwortet.
Weltweite Öffentlichkeit bedeutet im Moment für ihn den besten Schutz.

Laura Wahl acts as a political sponsor for the Iranian activist Reza Koshki Nejad, just like many politicians in Germany as well. He is an air force officer in the Iranian army and was arrested by the Islamic regime for his support of the protests on December 15, 2022. Since the beginning of the protests, Nejad had publicly supported them on social media, which led to his arrestment by the military court. Through this channel, he shared that he is facing trial by an Iranian military court - starting on May 7th. He faces unfounded charges that could have serious consequences. Activists have faced the death penalty if their protests against the Islamic laws are interpretated as "waging war against God“.
„Reza is one of the many brave men and women in Iran who put themselves at great risk by standing up for human rights and freedom. A state shouldn’t be able to enforce arbitrary laws in sham trials in order to silence its own citizens,“ Wahl criticizes. „In a few days, Nejad will stand in front of a military court. I demand the Iranian ambassador: Take a public stand on this clear violation of human rights by the regime and stand up for the arrested activists! Human rights are universal rights! The planned trial against Reza is a farce!"
A postal inquiry as well as one by e-mail on the status of Reza Koshki Nejad's trial to the Iranian ambassador remained unanswered until today.
